Homemade Coffee Creamer – Over 2 Dozen Flavor Varieties!

~ Homemade Coffee Creamer

Homemade Coffee Creamer - over 2 dozen different flavor possibilities!
I like a good cup of light, sweet coffee. I simply cannot drink “cowboy coffee.”.  I don’t like my coffee black. I prefer a smooth breakfast blend made with my Keurig, with honey and an array of coffee creamers.

Found this on Mrs Happy Homemaker while looking for alternatives to store bought creamer and just had to share!

The whole point really is that coffee creamer is luxurious, and expensive. I’m lucky if I can find it on sale for $2.59 for the bigger bottles of the store brand. Anyway, for me to enjoy a good cup ‘o joe in the morning, it needs to be at least 10% French Vanilla coffee creamer. So that all adds up. Oh, and have you ever actually read the ingredients of the back of that store-bought creamer?  It shouldn’t even be called creamer. I don’t think there is actually any cream in there at all.

Lets look…

Nope, nothing that says “cream.” here!

There is a whole boatload of other stuff in there that shouldn’t be though. Like partially hydrogenated soybean oil, sodium casinate and dipotassium phosphate. What the heck is all that STUFF? And look at that one in parenthesis: Titanium Dioxide. That is added to make it more white. Go check your toothpaste. Unless you buy the blue or green gel toothpaste, your tube might have titanium dioxide in it. Go ahead, go check. I’ll wait….

Isn’t that gross? And possibly cancerous to boot!

So, I’ve been thinking about the psuedo-creamer for a while now and I recently read on Facebook that one of my friends successfully made her own coffee creamer. So I did a little research and a little tweaking and came up with a long list, flavors and many pretty darn good DIY creamers.  With actual dairy products! Imagine that!!

Start with one 14 oz can of sweet condensed milk.  Then starting messing around with flavorings like good quality vanilla extract, hazelnut syrup, cocoa powder or whatever.  Here was my first batch:
1 – 14oz can seet condensed milk
2 cups milk
1 T cocoa
1 tsp almond extract

Whisk it all up in a container that is easy to pour into a glass quart jar or a re-used pseudo-creamer container.
Assuming all your ingredients are fresh, your homemade creamer should last at least a week!

I’m not sure if this recipe actually costs any less than the store bought stuff, but it certainly is better for you, since you can pronounce everything in it.

Enjoy your custom creamer!

French Vanilla Coffee Creamer

Ingredients
  • 14oz sweetened condensed milk
  • 14oz milk (Whole, Lowfat, Half & Half or Skim – doesn’t matter)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract OR Vanilla Coffee Syrup OR vanilla bean paste
  • a mason jar (quart is perfect)
Instructions

Pour all of the ingredients into your mason jar. Screw the lid on tightly, and shake vigorously for a few minutes until well combined.

*To Make it creamier, substitute the milk for heavy cream

**I use the milk/cream that I use expiration date as a guide to how long my homemade creamer is good.

Homemade Coffee Creamer – Over 2 Dozen Flavor Varieties!

Homemade Coffee Creamer - over 2 dozen flavor possibilities with one base recipe!
Back in 2012, I posted a recipe for Homemade French Vanilla Coffee Creamer.
So, this extended post with different flavor combinations has been a very long time coming.
Ok, so for whatever flavor of creamer you want, you start off with the same basic ‘base’ recipe.
  • 14oz sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 3/4 cup milk or cream (whole, lowfat, skim, almond, soy, heavy cream, half & half etc – whatever your preference, however the more fat, the more creaminess)
Mix the ingredients together well.  I like to add them to a mason jar and shake it like crazy. You could also opt to use an old (washed) creamer container.  Refer to the directions & tips at the very end of the post as well.

For those of you who want or need a sugar free option.  You can make your own sweetened condensed milk with the sugar substitute of your choice. Now, you can make your own sugar free flavored creamer :)
Starting off with the original french vanilla recipe, here’s a list of the different flavor combinations you can add to the base recipe for your own homemade custom creamer!
